New Goal?

Sat Oct 31, 2009, 1:10 AM
I've been very unproductive for a very long time, which is something I've been meaning to change. Even when I'm not drawing I seem to constantly be coming up with things that I'd like to draw someday. So that I won't forget any of these ideas I write them all down on a sheet of paper that I keep in a drawer in my bed-side table. The paper is getting pretty full, so I'm going to attempt to start whittling down the list a bit and actually drawing some of the things I've been wanting to get around to.

However, I hate making ultimatums for myself and then not following through on them, so I'm not really committing to anything. All I can say for right now is that I have started on one piece that I intend to finish. Past that I'm not promising anything, but with any luck I'll remain invigorated by the various subject matter on my page of ideas and produce some worthwhile artwork in the coming weeks/months.

In the meantime, you should go check out a couple of my friends' pages.

First is :icongreenskyzero:. To be completely honest, the excellent pages he's been producing lately for his creator-owned comic Forever Winter have been, if not a good source of inspiration, a wake-up call to me that if I want to get better I've got to actually sit down and draw something.

Then there's :iconbolognafingers:, who recently had his first professional comic book work published in Deadpool #900 from Marvel Comics. Just seeing another one of my former classmates achieving some success has been a source of much-needed inspiration.

Of course, I should stop talking about all of this inspiration until I actually have something to show to prove just how inspired I am. Like I said, hopefully you'll be seeing some art posts from me soon.

A hint of what I'm currently working on: It's fatal, but not serious.

Thanks for the fave! There's a bunch more Marvel and/or Wildstorm fanart, and some original comics stuff, in my gallery...
:icongreenskyzero:
I found an oversized Aliens book that heavy metal put out in the basement of a bookstore in cambridge...if you come to Mass I will bring you to this place.

If it's by Heavy Metal, I'm assuming that it's Alien: The Illustrated Story by Walt Simonson. Is this the one?: [link]

Aside from some really rare old Japanese AvP comics, I own every Alien comic that I've ever come across. I do love basement book stores, though.

Thanks for the FAV GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!! What's the craps?
:iconlarq2525:
The craps ain't much. Working at Michaels, working at the comic store, working on a web-comic, working on getting some sleep. The usual. What about you? How much sleep are you getting now that you have a kid? Is it anything like sharing a room with Slominski?

What a wait for a reply! Having a kid is great all thought I would advise waiting a while to do it. I get plenty of sleep, totally lucked out on that part. I totally lucked out on an awesome kid if I say so myself. Karl just used to snore like crazy, at least I didn't have to wake up in the morning and change his diaper. I'm still plugging along, trying to find work, and wishing I was in grad school. I did the cover and 3 pgs for an anthology selling sometime soon on LULU. Can't complain about that. I won the cover in a contest, but was also the only one to enter. Having a kid really makes you appreciate the time you used to have. I get by some how thought. He has to turn 18 sometime right. That'll be a sad day. Any good reads lately?
:iconlarq2525:
Started reading Scalped a little while ago and it's currently filling the void left in my life when Y: The Last Man and 100 Bullets ended. I still read anything/everything Warren Ellis does. Black Summer and No Hero from Avatar have been my favorites from him lately. I've been reading a lot of Marvel and DC superhero books over the last 6 or 8 months, but I think I'm gonna stop because most of them suck. I'm buying more and more books for the art instead of the stories lately, which has resulted in me owning piles of books that I look at and then never bother to read. BPRD, Hellboy, and Umbrella Academy are still good. Recently tracked down all of Adam Warren's old Dirty Pair comics. Those are really fun. You?

I read the first Casanova book and thought it was really fun. Tried to go through a Gabriel Ba/Fabio Moon phase, but it didn't stick to long. There Hellboy book looks real fun. If you pick up the Abe Sapien one shot my friend Patrick [link] did the back up story. Did you read Parker the Hunter? It's probably my fav read of the year. I an admitted Cooke geek and this just fueled the fire. I also recently read 100%, pretty fun and my first Pope read, A drifting Life, long and autobiographical, but good none the less and really got me interested in Tezuka, and Asterion Polip. Maybe I'm just not intellectual enough but the Mazzuchelli book didn't do much for me aside from the art and story telling. The ending must have been so deep it went over my head because I though it was wetarted. I read your inspiration rant, go get em, it's not gonna come to you.
